You killed Liferay and it won't start anymore?! Part #2

The dockbar is gone

Sometimes you have to kill your Liferay instance, most likely the Java process.

This is a brutal moment, even more if you do it with kill -9.

If you do this, Liferay of course cannot shut down normally, cannot do the cleanup and recovery steps it has to do to start up again healthy.

After restart and login you realize your dockbar is lost. It’s gone.

And Liferay is complaining about missing jsp-s, most likely view.jsp and view_user_account.jspf, but the files are there.

What I tried first:

  1. stop liferay
  2. replace the two files with the originals from the install zip
  3. wipe temp and work (as always)
  4. start liferay

Guess what: doesn’t work. sad

What I tried next:

  1. stop liferay
  2. replace the complete dockbar folder with the originals from the install zip
  3. wipe temp and work (as always)
  4. start liferay

And it works now.

What I suspect there are some JSP hooks that don’t undeploy successfully and end up in a weird state somehow, removing themselves after startup.

You killed Liferay and it won't start anymore?! Part #1
